North Island and both Island Self-Drive Itineraries

Seven day driving modules

Beautiful Russell in the Bay of Islands is less than an easy day's drive north of Auckland.

Part of a series on travel to and in New Zealand - click the links in the right hand column for more articles and click here for the master listing of New Zealand driving itineraries.

The suggested driving itineraries below give you some ideas about how you can structure seven days in the North Island of New Zealand.

We've tried to include the main highlight 'must see' sights of the North Island in these itineraries.  This is difficult - there is so much to see and do that even seven weeks would be easily filled.  But better to have seven days than no days, and so here are some suggestions for you.

Sample Itineraries for the North Island and both Islands, with a seven day travel time.

Here are some possible ways of spending seven days on a self-drive itinerary around the North Island (and optionally South Island too) of New Zealand.

See our separate page of seven day South Island self-drive itineraries for more suggestions.

And if you have more time to spend, consider combining itineraries, or spending more time in the places featured, and perhaps traveling shorter distances each day.

We'll also be releasing suggested driving itineraries for longer time periods in the near future.
