Have you noticed an increasing
number of people at the airport, carrying a special pouch around
their neck in which they have their ticket, boarding pass, and
photo ID?
What are these thing, where do
you get them, what do they cost, and should you have one too?
What You Need to Show and When
These days, it seems we're
all the time showing our ID when passing through an airport. If
you're checking baggage or getting a boarding pass at the
counter, you'll need to show your ticket and usually your photo
ID as well.
Then, when passing through
security, you need to show your ID once or even twice (once to a
person who allows you to enter into security, and the second
time to a person who checks your boarding pass for any security
alert codes on your boarding pass).
You might need to show your
ID again before boarding the plane (some airlines require it,
others realize how absolutely unnecessary it is to ask for ID
yet again) plus of course, you'll need to hand over your
boarding pass. In total, you could be showing your various
documents four or five times just on a single trip through the
airport.
How These Pouches Help You
These pouches are elegantly
simple in context. They provide a dedicated place to put your
necessary travel documents all together, so you don't have to
worry about dropping or losing them, and you can conveniently
present them, as a set, to the various people asking to see
them.
In addition, there may be
extra features also offered like a zip up compartment to keep
other items in, a privacy flap to fold over the otherwise

Different Pouch Designs and
Suppliers
There are at least three or
four different types of pouches on the market, with only a few
points of difference between them.
One example is the 'Easy
TravelAir' Security Pouch, sold through their own website, with
an
online special of $10 each plus $4.95 for shipping (the
shipping charge is fixed, no matter how many you order). It has
two compartments in the front - one for photo ID and one for
your ticket and boarding pass. The ticket/boarding pass sticks
out the top of the holder, making it easy for you (or the
security person) to pull it out to inspect.
The space for photo ID is
plenty large enough for any normal driver's license, but it is
too small to fit an open passport (the opening is 4¼" wide; a
passport is just under 5" wide).
On the back side there is a
zip up compartment to store whatever else you might want to
store plus another open compartment for other things you might
want to conveniently access. One comment - Easy TravelAir
suggest putting your cellphone in the zip up compartment. I
disagree. If you only put non-metallic items in the pouch, you
don't need to take if off when going through the metal detector,
but if you have your phone or keys or pocket change in the
pouch, of course you have to put it through the X-ray machine
instead.
The neck strap, made out of
a braided cord, is adjustable in length so you can have it
conveniently at whatever position you want on your chest, and
the main pouch is made out of durable woven nylon, similar to
that used on softsided luggage.

A Great Gift Idea, Too
These low priced but useful
items would seem to make good gifts for the frequent travelers
in your life.
In addition, Easy TravelAir
can custom print your logo or slogan on their pouches and
provide them to you in bulk to be used as corporate gifts. It is
getting hard to think of a corporate gift that people will
actually use for an extended time - these promise to be
reasonably priced (especially in bulk) and something that people
would use for many years to come.
Summary
While having a bit of the
'pencil protector' aura about them, these pouches can be a
convenient way of keeping your vital travel documents easily at
hand as you go through an airport. You have less chance of
losing them and won't be delayed desperately searching through
your carryons to find your tickets and ID when you need them.
A simple solution, and a
small price to pay for the convenience they offer.
