2018 Fundraising Drive

Thank you for your interest in helping our 2018 Fundraising Drive.

You are welcome to contribute as much as you wish, or as little as you conveniently can, to help continue and develop The Travel Insider website and newsletter.

No-one should feel obliged to contribute anything, and absolutely, please don't cause yourself any hardship or inconvenience if you do choose to contribute.  But if you can conveniently contribute, of course please do.

In choosing to do so, you are helping The Travel Insider to continue to operate and to continue to grow, to continue to release valuable and helpful reviews, content and commentary, into the future, just the same as we've been doing continually since 2001.

And you're also getting an increasing number of extra benefits, too.  These are :

  • Amazon Echo Commands Cheat Sheet :  A 10 page listing of some of the more helpful commands to use with an Alexa/Echo device.  Discussed in our article on Using an Amazon Echo.

  • Internet Access While Traveling Internationally Article :  A 37 page article that will help you remain connected, at lowest cost, while traveling out of the county.
You've heard the occasional stories of someone accidentally spending thousands - even tens of thousands - of dollars on international data fees.  This article will help ensure it doesn't happen to you, while making it easier to find the best/fastest data options.

  • Streaming Device Reviews :  An eight page supplement to our article on streaming players.  We rate and rank the best streaming devices and give you some additional tips on how to best use them and how to best watch any big screen television.
Learn how to get the best value and best viewing experience possible.

  • Tablet Features Comparisons :  A seven page supplement to our article on the new Amazon 10" Fire HD tablet, explaining what to look for and what the measurements mean, and a chart listing 17 different features for six different tablets.
Don't be pressured into buying a name-brand tablet when there are comparable products available for much less than half the price.  This knowledge can save you hundreds of dollars.

  • High-end Smartphone Comparisons :  An addition to the free comparison of various smartphones, looking at 20 high-end phones and considering more features, revealing the $200 phone that is closely comparable to the $500-$1000 phones.
This article too can save you many hundreds of dollars.

  • 5% Discount on certain river cruises in Europe and Asia :  Applies to you and everyone traveling with you, on up to two cruises a year.
You could get many times your support back on this benefit alone.  Full details including the name of the river cruise line provided upon receipt of your support.

  • 5% Discount on Travel Insider tours :  Get 5% off any Travel Insider tours you choose to go on, up to a maximum of one half the amount you have sent in during the 12 months prior to making final payment for each tour.
You can get back the entire amount of your support.  Full details provided upon receipt of your support.

How to Contribute

You have five choices of how to support The Travel Insider.  They are :

1.  One-off Credit Card Contributions via Paypal

Simply click this button and then choose any amount you'd like to contribute.  You don't need to be a Paypal member to use this service.

One Time Contribution

2.  Credit Card Contributions via Square - One-off or Ongoing

If you don't wish to use Paypal, and still wish to contribute via credit card, we can directly accept credit card payments and run your card ourselves, through the 'Square' credit card service.

Simply email or fax us (206 338-3381) with the following information (if you're anxious about the security of doing this, send us two emails or faxes, with half the information in each one) :

  • Credit Card Number

  • Expiration

  • Three Digit Code on Back (or 4 digit on front with Amex)

  • Billing Zip/Postal Code

  • Amount You Wish to Contribute

3.  Ongoing Regular Contributions via Paypal

You can create a voluntary 'subscription' via Paypal and allow it to send automatic monthly or quarterly contributions.

You can of course cancel any time you might choose.

Simply click whichever Paypal option button at the bottom of the page you prefer.

4.  Mailed in Contributions

If you prefer, you're welcome to send checks to

David M Rowell
The Travel Insider
17321 NE 31st Ct
Redmond WA 98052

If you're sending money through the mail, please be sure to include your email address so I can let you know your contribution arrived.

If you're contributing on behalf of your company using any of these methods, we're pleased to send you an invoice for a Travel Insider newsletter subscription to help ensure it qualifies for reimbursement.

5.  Using Venmo

If you use the Venmo payment/transfer system, you are welcome to send in your support via that service, to David Rowell, Venmo ID

                      @David-Rowell-4

We've no idea who the other three David Rowell people may be, but please be sure to send it to us, not to one of our clones!

How Much to Contribute

In the past, we've received contributions ranging from $5, up to $500 and occasionally even more.

Most people seem to choose to contribute between $10 and $100.

But, we actually misspoke when we said 'most people'.  In sad reality, very few people contribute at all - typically about 400 a year.

And so your contribution, in any amount at all, automatically places you in the elite category of people who have kindly given back and helped out.  Thank you for the act of contributing, no matter how much it might be.

If you equate your support of The Travel Insider in terms of 'cups of Starbucks coffee' or 'copies of USA Today' or 'tips paid to service providers who offer very little in return', we hope you'll realize that the third of a million or more words of information you get each year from The Travel Insider is one of life's truly outstanding bargains, and definitely deserving of your support.

Super Supporters

A few people send in three figure sums, earning them the accolade of becoming a 'super supporter'.

If you choose to follow their example, in addition to my even more fervent thanks, you would get a personal Christmas card and, hmmm - not much else except the hopefully priceless personal pleasure and karma from becoming such a valued and key supporter.

How to Create a Voluntary Subscription by Paypal/Credit Card

This is a great way to provide much appreciated ongoing support, at any convenient level of your choice, and which can be cancelled at any time.

Simply choose any of the 'Subscribe' buttons from the table below to create an automatic and voluntary monthly or quarterly contribution (which can be instantly cancelled at any time by a single button click on the 'Cancel Subscription' button at the bottom).
